Mike's Pilot Log: South to South Adventure

The beautiful southern part of Namibia was special to see.

After saying all our goodbyes, we took off for Hobas at the northern end of the Fish River Canyon. After take-off, I flew low level over Derek Watts, who was still sleeping under a tree in the open. I opened the front of my helmet and leaning far over shouted happy birthday to him as we zoomed over his head. It really was his birthday!

The flight was great. The incredibly beautiful southern part of Namibia was something special to see.

After nearly 4 hours, we landed on the runway which was about 5 km from the camp at Hobas and unpacked and removed the wings. No one came to fetch us, so Olivier, Manuella and I jumped onto Olivier's trike undercarriage and Graham and Martine on Martine's undercarriage drove the 5 km down the track and sand road to the camp.

We lay around the pool and swam, and waited for Andre to arrive with the Land Rover.

That night we had a braai and again slept in the open.
