Mike's Pilot Log: South to South Adventure

The chap who had to approve our visas wasn't there...

First stop was at the Nigerian embassy. The chap who had to approve our visas wasn't there and he left a message that he wanted to see our return tickets! I sense a battle brewing. We took our passports with us and headed to the embassy of Burkina Faso. Everyone was very pleasant at this embassy. A few hours later we had the next visa.

We are a bit shocked by the costs of these damn visas – so far we have spent R4,600 and still have a few to go.

Back to the Nigerian embassy. The assistant director or whatever he is had just returned from praying at the mosque and didn't want to issue our visas without first seeing the Nigerian flight authorisation. That was impossible to get so far in advance and at such short notice …. Olivier had quite a good argument with him and that kind of sealed it – no visa. He kept saying "E yess, I have my reasons, I am an educated man and know about these things!" A taste of things to come. We decided to try and get Nigerian visas later in Burkina Faso or in Benin.

Home to the crazy dog and our adopted family.
