9th of October 1999... Nouakchott, Mauritania..

Some news!! We arr'ived yesterday in Nouakchott after a long flight from Dakhla / Morocco. The last hour was pretty tough, as the "Chergui" (Hot Saharian Wind) was blowing from inland, pushing us toward Brazil.. ..We stay at "Le Petit Paris" hotel, and we took the room with air-conditioning because, it is really hot here.. Morocco was fresh, but as soon as we passed the "corner" in Nouadhibou we felt a wave of warm air coming from the desert.. ..Mauritania is very pleasant, and I must admit that it feels really good to be here... I love Morocco and Moroccans a lot, but flying there is a kind of bureaucratic mission. It si probably one of the most beautiful country one's can wish to fly over, but the price is somehow too high and you never feel FREE.. ...Everyone was pleasant but after a while it gets a little enoying dealing with such a paranoiac bureaucracy.. ..Mauritania seems much easy going! GOOD! The autorities already told us that we can camp free anywhere on our route to Nema and Tombouctou. What a bonus! This is what we enjoy the most. Bivouaking free in the desert or Savana, with no one around, only animals, and the stars on top. We stoped for two nights in order to get a little rest . Since Essaouira we flew everyday 500 or more kilometres. It is the rain season now, so we will have to dodge around some thunderstorms and rain shower. I am so pleased to return to Tombouctou and above all bringing my wing mate Mike there. This little Saharian town has still a lot of mysteries and Magic. .. My engine runs well and smooth. the oil pressure problem from France seems not having made any deep damage. Cross fingers.. Mike is still keeping the log updated, but I cannot get onto the computer again.. Too many things to see and touch and only one computer for 2 anyway. I know that I will be full time writing after the trip so I prefer enjoying every bit of this fabulous escape.. Thank's for all your messages... ..Next news probably from Ouagadougou in Burkina faso because I doubt that Tombouctou and Gao has any Internet Cafe..
